A36 Steel is the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) designation for carbon steel with a yield strength of 36,000 PSI. Unlike most other grades that are designated by their chemical composition, the 36 corresponds to its mechanical properties. Calculate K factor, bend allowance and Y factor for sheet metal bending. The K factor is the most important and elusive variable of bending, because it varies both as a function of the material and according to parameters such as angle and tooling.
